Inversion, Perversion ~ the series

Inversion, Perversion ~ the series

A recently created series of artworks, consisting of a mix of negative inversion and solarisation (Sabattier effect) of the digital negative.  “Inversion, Perversion” is a play of reversal, concealing that revealed, revealing that concealed, white to black and black to white, addressing the perception and conception of erotism within society, along with colour and race.  “Inversion, Perversion” brings a new perspective to classic erotism, challenging traditions, whilst at the same time using age old traditions within the process of creation and production.

A series of 14 artworks, each available in 5 editions (+ 2 a.p.).  Archival pigment prints, on Hahnemühle Photo Rag (308 g/m2).. Dry mounted with a 4 cm passe-partout, framed behind glass.  Print size is 80 cm (31.50″) x 60 cm (23.62″).  Signed, dated and numbered verso and issued with artist’s Certificate of Authenticity.

The full series of 14 artworks can be viewed HERE. For additional information or other enquiries, please e-mail me.

Bold & Blond

Bold & Blond ~ the series

Bold & Blond ~ the series

“Bold & Blond”, is a kind of erotic pop-art, influenced by the 1970’s art scene.  Highly erotic, heavily saturated, surreal in feel and form. Almost aggressive sexuality, yet begging the question of who, why and where? An inherent mystery, boldly depicting female sexuality. Unreal, yet real in form and context.  Very bold & very blond, with an intention to arouse and intimidate. An exhibition of the strength of female sexuality!

A series of 18 artworks, each available in a limited edition of 6. Archival pigment prints, each measuring 100 cm x 80 cm (39.37″ x 31.50″).  Dry mounted and framed behind glass to the client’s preference.

The full series of 18 artworks can be viewed HERE. Available internationally via selective representatives. Please contact me for additional information.

Yakuza ~ A Unique Photographic Novel

Yakuza ~ the novel

Yakuza ~ the novel

Yakuza ~ the novel

An Erotic Photo Novel

By Thomas Hodges and M.Christian

Yakuza is truly unique project about two people, a man and a woman, who, at first, felt torn between two worlds, but who come to understand – though their passion, their sexuality, the meeting of the their souls and spirits — that where they first saw conflict and isolation that there is actually a power in becoming the best of their separate worlds.

Alan is a man with the land of his birth, France, on one side and on the other his life as Yakuza, a member of Japanese organized crime.  Gaining the trust of a local family boss, his Yakuza Oyabun, he has risen through the ranks by his ruthlessness and his coolly calculating intelligence.  But no matter how high he rises within his crime family, his foreign birth will always keep him away from being truly accepted: Alan, no matter what he does or how well he does it, will always be the outsider.  That is, until he meets Natsuki, and he will understand that he is, and will always be, a part of something: the land of himself.

Natsuki is a woman caught in the strange domain where, on one side, she is Japanese, and so must be demure, polite, and most of all respectable, and on the other her own heated desires.  Her world was a one of simple colors, of a life mapped out and planned by the culture she was born into.  But then comes Alan, the exotic, the strange, the different, and she becomes enraptured by him and the colors running over his body in the form of his traditional Yakuza tattoos.  And with his colors, and his passion, will come for her a way to bridge her desires as well as her role in society.  With Alan will come a way for her to use him to paint her own unique canvas of life.

Yakuza, too, is a book that is also the best of both worlds: a project that straddles the visual and the literary, the photographic and the linguistic, the voyeuristic and the immersive.  Yakuza is a story, told with photographs – or a novel illustrated with images.

Created by famed photographic artist Thomas Hodges, and renown erotic author M.Christian, Yakuza is a beautiful, striking, and most of all, poignant work of sex, sensuality and passion.  Yes, Yakuza is explicit and erotic, but beyond the passion of its characters and its artist and writer, Yakuza is a work that does in its execution what its characters do within it: they show that despite differences, the gap between photographs and words, there is power and beauty in creating something with the strength of the two.

In Yakuza, Alan and Natsuki learn to be together, in their lives as well as their cultures, instead of apart — and so do Thomas Hodges and M.Christian demonstrate that the imagery of photography and the immersive nature of literature can also combine to create something special and truly memorable.

Thomas Hodges, a British national, currently residing in Italy, specializes in the art-nude and erotic-nude genres, but also produces a limited amount of work in abstract, architecture and landscape. Commercially, Thomas works in the Fashion and Beauty sectors, although this is progressively being replaced by his work in the movie industry, shooting film stills.

In 2006, Thomas founded the art movement “Imaginism”, primarily to encapsulate his own style of imagery. Regardless whether the image be that of the naked female form, an architectural monument, an urban or rural landscape of an unidentifiable abstraction, apply your imagination to see beyond what your eyes first behold!

PRESS RELEASE: Awareness in Manhattan

Awareness in Manhattan

For Immediate Release:
Manhattan, NY 18 December, 2010

Awareness in Manhattan (AIM) is an exhibition series featuring 30 large format limited edition artworks by famed photographic artist Thomas Hodges. The series will debut in 2011 at a prime Manhattan venue, with a V.I.P reception highlighted by an auction of the first editions of these unique specially produced artworks. Celebrity guest are expected to attend the exhibition, with full event details to be announced later this year.

Hodges is known for his “Imaginistic” photographs of female beauty, which are sought after by collectors globally. Attendees will experience firsthand his award winning work, which has been described as, “sensuality with suspense”.

Thomas said: “The objective of the series is to bring the subject of breast cancer prevention to the focus of a sector of the community that is frequently overlooked, i.e. the younger, hip, chic and trendy, that may feel beyond the disease and immune. Also, focus will be on the traditional sector of the community, whereby the very nature of this series grabs their attention, bringing a general awareness to society as a whole.”
One of the aims of the project is to help raise awareness of cancer prevention in the community and target those unaware of the relatively simple choices they can make in reducing their cancer risk.

Inaugurate exhibitions will take place in New York City and London with 50 per cent of proceeds donated to World Cancer Research Fund, a UK charity which is a member of a global network of charities who fund scientific research and give people the information they need to reduce cancer risk. A commemorative book is anticipated to complement the exhibition, with any proceeds also going to the cancer charity.

The Awareness in Manhattan exhibition will contain photos shot on the streets of New York City featuring international top model and actress Chu Chiao Wang, who kindly donated her services to this project. She has lived and worked in Europe since 2005 when she moved to London to study for her Master’s degree. “As a professional model it is a great artistic opportunity to work with someone like Thomas whose work I really admire. I am also pleased that the money raised will go towards cancer prevention research, which is something that is close to my heart.”
